Moving Soon - when/where should I register?

HTML:
Hi Everyone,
I am moving to another state within two months and I am trying to figure out if I should work as a freelancer or get my business legal..register it where I currently live and then do it again when I move. I am unsure and want to do the right thing. I start my business next week. Thanks for your help.

Re: Moving Soon

That's an interesting question. I will be moving early next year and will also be starting up in August. To me it depends on if you ever plan to move back to the state you are currently in. In my case, my husband is in the military and after he retires we will move back to the state we are currently in. I'm going to register my business here and then domesticate into the next state we move to. That basically will make my current state my home state and then allow me to operate in the new state that I move to. Hopefully that all makes sense! I guess what it boils down to for me is that it depends on your long-term plan.

Re: Moving Soon

Hi Providence,
I appreciate your feedback. I'm actually making my home in the new state. I am not familiar with domesticating into a new state but I will see if that is something that I can use in my situation. Thanks again

For setting up your business to a new place, you can register to Business e commerce portals for finding the buyers of the products. This will help you find the local market for your business.

Hi Tracey,

I am a fellow military spouse, and I am hoping that you can provide some clarity for me as well. *fingers crossed* Which branch is your family with?

My home of record is Illinois and I currently pay state taxes in IL. I am opening my VA business as a sole-proprietor and I will file my business taxes on my personal return to the state of IL regardless of which state we are currently stationed in. So...can I get my business license in IL and use it for work I do while stationed in any other state?

Any advice you can give would be very helpful, since you have lived it! VA military spouses got it stick together! Thank you!
